Located at around 4,870 m (15,978 feet), Makalu Base Camp surrounds itself with the mountains and glaciers of the valley. It is situated in the eastern part of Nepal, with scenic views of Makalu, the fifth-highest mountain in the world. Since the accessibility is a bit remote and protected, trekkers need to put extra effort into getting there. It starts by taking a flight from Kathmandu up to Tumilngtar. The trail takes trekkers through the terrain from there, giving them a sense of tranquillity. From there onwards, the journey for the trekkers truly begins.
The trekkers can explore the ethnic communities such as the Sherpas, Rais, and Gurungs inhabiting the Makalu region. This experience will allow the trekkers to explore the local culture and witness traditional practices.

Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel. Rest and recover from your flight. Attend a trek briefing, check your trekking permits, and prepare your gear for the journey ahead.
Take an early morning flight to Tumlingtar and enjoy scenic aerial views of eastern Nepal. From Tumlingtar, drive to Num, the gateway to the Makalu region. Overnight in Num and prepare for the trek.
Begin trekking through forests of pine and rhododendron, crossing small streams and farmlands. Immerse in local village life and enjoy the stunning Himalayan scenery. Overnight in Yangle Kharka.
Trek along ridges and valleys with views of Chamlang and Makalu peaks. Pass through remote settlements and enjoy the serene alpine environment. Overnight in Tashigaon.
Ascend gradually through forests and open landscapes. Experience the beauty of high-altitude villages and spectacular mountain vistas along the trail. Overnight in Seduwa.
Trek through alpine meadows and glacial streams, enjoying panoramic views of Makalu and surrounding peaks. Reach Langmale and overnight in a teahouse.
Continue the ascent to the Makalu Base Camp. Marvel at the towering Makalu massif, glaciers, and the dramatic Barun Valley. Overnight at Makalu Base Camp or nearby camp.
Spend a day acclimatizing and exploring nearby ridges or viewpoints. Capture panoramic photos of Makalu, Chamlang, and Barun Glacier. Return to camp for overnight stay.
Descend back to Langmale through the Barun Valley. Enjoy serene alpine meadows, rivers, and the majestic mountain scenery on the way. Overnight in Langmale.
Retrace your steps through high-altitude villages and forests. Stop at scenic viewpoints and interact with local communities. Overnight in Seduwa.
Descend gradually through ridges and valleys. Pass small villages and enjoy the peaceful Himalayan landscapes. Overnight in Tashigaon.
Continue descending through forests and open terrain. Admire distant views of Makalu and surrounding peaks as you approach lower altitudes. Overnight in Yangle Kharka.
Complete the final trekking section to Num. Drive back to Tumlingtar and take an afternoon flight to Kathmandu. Rest at your hotel.
Transfer to the airport for your onward flight. Conclude the Makalu Base Camp trek with lasting memories of remote Himalayan peaks, glaciers, and alpine villages.
