Lobuche East stands at an elevation of 6,119 m (20,075 feet) above sea level, making it one of the most popular trekking peaks in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Located near Mt. Everest, this trekking peak attracts climbers worldwide to experience the magnificent beauty of the Himalayas up close.
The ascent to Lobuche East begins from Lukla, following the Everest Base Camp trekking route, passing through sherpa villages, forests, and valleys with breathtaking views, rich with local culture and traditions. Climbers have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Sherpa culture and traditions and get to explore the Sherpa way of life.
Lobuche East is nevertheless a challenging climb that requires some mountaineering skills along with serving as an excellent preparatory climb for more peaks in the region. It is a combined adventure of natural beauty and mountaineering for climbers seeking an unforgettable and extraordinary experience.
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be warmly greeted and escorted to your hotel in Kathmandu. Take some time to rest and recover from your journey. Later, meet with the trekking team for a detailed briefing about the route, altitude, and equipment requirements. Explore the nearby streets of Thamel, known for its shops and cafés. This day helps you settle comfortably before the adventure begins.
Enjoy a scenic 30–35 minute flight to Lukla, surrounded by stunning Himalayan peaks. After meeting your porters, start your trek with a gentle descent toward Phakding. Walk through charming Sherpa villages, cross suspension bridges, and follow the Dudh Koshi River. The trail offers beautiful forests and prayer walls along the way. Reach Phakding and check into your lodge for a relaxing evening by the riverside.
Continue along the river, crossing several suspension bridges and passing small villages. Enter Sagarmatha National Park where your permits are checked. From Jorsalle, begin the long uphill climb toward Namche, crossing the iconic Hillary Bridge. As you ascend, Everest and other peaks come into view for the first time. Arrive at Namche Bazaar, the largest Sherpa town in the Khumbu region, filled with shops, cafés, and mountain views.
Spend the day acclimatizing to the altitude with a short hike to Everest View Hotel or the villages of Khumjung and Kunde. These hikes help your body adjust while offering superb panoramic views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. Return to Namche for lunch and explore the bazaars, bakeries, and museums. It’s also a great day to learn about Sherpa culture. Rest well to prepare for higher altitudes ahead.
Walk along a scenic ridge offering incredible views of Ama Dablam, Everest, and Lhotse. Descend through forests to the river and cross a suspension bridge before starting a steady climb to Tengboche. Visit the famous Tengboche Monastery, the spiritual center of the Khumbu. After some time exploring, continue a short downhill walk to peaceful Debuche. Spend the night surrounded by rhododendron forests and mountain silence.
Begin by crossing the Imja Khola on a small bridge and climbing toward Pangboche, the highest permanent settlement in the region. The trail gradually opens into wide valleys as you approach the Imja Valley. Stunning views of Ama Dablam accompany you throughout the day. Continue trekking through Shomare and cross small streams before finally reaching Dingboche. The landscape becomes more rugged and alpine as you gain elevation.
Ascend steadily toward Thukla with panoramic views of Taboche and Cholatse. After reaching Thukla, start a steep climb up to the memorial ridge filled with monuments honoring climbers who lost their lives on Everest. Continue along the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier with dramatic mountain scenery in every direction. The air becomes thinner and cooler. Reach Lobuche and settle into your lodge for the night.
Follow a rocky trail along the glacial moraine toward Gorakshep. After a short break, continue your trek toward Everest Base Camp. The path leads across uneven terrain, ice mounds, and ridges of the Khumbu Glacier. Upon reaching EBC, enjoy the immense icefall and the feeling of standing at the foot of the world’s highest peak. After photos and exploration, return to Gorakshep for a restful night.
Begin early before sunrise to climb Kala Patthar, the best viewpoint for Everest and surrounding peaks. The ascent is steep but offers unforgettable panoramic views once you reach the top. After sunrise photography and admiring the Himalayan giants, descend back to Gorakshep for breakfast. Continue trekking down the trail toward Lobuche. Enjoy easier breathing as you move to lower elevation.
Start your climb toward Lobuche High Camp through steep, rocky terrain. The ascent gradually becomes more technical with sections of loose rock and ice. Upon reaching high camp, your guides will provide climbing instructions and demonstrate equipment use. Spend the afternoon preparing for the summit push. Hydrate well and rest early as you will start the summit attempt before dawn.
Begin the climb in the early hours using headlamps and ropes as needed. The route includes steep snow and ice slopes leading to the summit ridge. Reach the summit to witness breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and Ama Dablam. After celebrating and taking photos, descend carefully back to high camp. Continue your descent to Lobuche for a comfortable overnight stay.
Retrace your route through Thukla, passing the memorials once again. The trail gradually becomes easier as you descend toward Pangboche and Tengboche. Enjoy warmer temperatures and thicker air as you lose altitude. Continue through forests and villages back to Namche Bazaar. Celebrate the completion of your summit adventure with a warm meal and rest.
Descend through pine forests, cross several suspension bridges, and follow the Dudh Koshi River past Jorsalle and Monjo. Pass through Phakding and continue the final climb toward Lukla. This is your last night in the Khumbu region, often celebrated with the trekking team. Enjoy a relaxing evening after a successful expedition.
Take a scenic morning flight back to Kathmandu, enjoying your last aerial views of the Himalayas. Once back in the city, transfer to your hotel for rest. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing, shopping, or exploring. Kathmandu’s vibrant streets offer plenty of cafés and cultural sites to enjoy. A perfect day to unwind.
