19 DAYS
Embark on an extraordinary journey into the remote and untamed region north of the Annapurna range—the captivating Nar Phu Valley. This off-the-beaten-path trek begins in Jagat, initially following the well-known Annapurna Circuit trail before diverging at Koto to venture into the secluded Nar Phu Valley, located north of Manang. Along the way, we cross the impressive Kang La Pass, which offers sweeping views of the Annapurna mountain range. This pass connects the village of Nar with Manang and three other Bhotia villages in the Neyshang Valley.
As we ascend, the landscape opens into a vast region of snow-capped peaks, ancient settlements, and high-altitude grazing lands. The Nar Phu Valley trek is a rare opportunity to experience traditional Tibetan culture in a preserved, untouched setting, alongside breathtaking alpine scenery and dramatic mountain vistas.
After exploring the valley, we head westward, crossing the renowned Thorong La Pass and descending into Lower Mustang. From there, we continue to Jomsom, where we catch a flight back to Pokhara before driving back to Kathmandu the following day.
Upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, a representative from Himalayan Glacier will warmly welcome us and escort us to our hotel. After settling in, we can either relax or stop by the Himalayan Glacier office. In the evening, we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant, where we’ll savor authentic local dishes. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
After breakfast, we begin a guided sightseeing tour of some of Kathmandu’s most iconic cultural and spiritual landmarks, all recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Our visits include the historic Durbar Square, the revered Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the well-known Swayambhunath Stupa (also called the Monkey Temple), and Bouddhanath, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world. Around midday, we head to the Himalayan Glacier office for a gear check, trip briefing, and a chance to meet our climbing leader and fellow trekkers. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
We begin our journey early in the morning, departing Kathmandu around 7 a.m. after breakfast. The day involves a long but scenic drive, offering beautiful glimpses of the Nepali countryside—rolling hills, lush forests, flowing rivers, traditional villages, farmland, and distant mountain views. The first part of the drive to Besishahar follows a smooth, paved road. However, beyond Besishahar, the terrain becomes rough and dusty. Despite the bumpy ride, the stunning landscapes outside our window more than make up for the discomfort. After 8–10 hours on the road, we arrive in Jagat. Overnight stay in Jagat.
After breakfast, we begin our trek at a relaxed pace. The trail initially descends to the river, then winds through dense forest. As we ascend, we traverse a narrow path along a sharp cliff above the river. Along the way, we pass Chyamje, set against the stunning backdrop of the towering Annapurna ranges. Crossing a suspension bridge, we make a steep and challenging climb up to Sattale. The trail continues over rocky terrain before descending to a grassy riverbank that leads us into Tal. Beyond Tal, the path turns rugged and twisting as we head toward the forested village of Karte. Passing several waterfalls and sheer cliffs, we cross another suspension bridge before reaching our destination—Dharapani. Overnight stay in Dharapan
We begin our trek in the morning with a one-hour walk through pine and fir forests to reach Bagarchhap, where we can visit a whitewashed monastery. From there, we continue for about another hour to Danaque. The trail then climbs steeply to Timang, offering fantastic views of Mt. Manaslu and Peak 29. The route continues through dense pine forests for about an hour and a half until we reach Latamarang, where we stop for lunch. Afterward, we resume trekking through forested paths, catching a brief glimpse of Annapurna II along the way. Eventually, we arrive at Koto village. Overnight stay in Koto.
In the morning, we begin by registering our restricted area permits at the Police Check Post. The trek then follows the riverbank of Soti Khola, leading us through beautiful pine forests, crossing streams and suspension bridges, until we reach Dharmasala. We enjoy our packed lunch along the way. From Dharmasala, we continue through forested terrain and make a steep ascent to reach Meta village. As we approach the Tibetan Plateau, we're rewarded with breathtaking views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. Overnight stay in Meta.
We begin the day trekking along a trail that rises and falls, crossing several suspension bridges over mountain streams. After about four hours, we arrive at Kyang, where the ruins of ancient Khampa forts—once inhabited by Tibetan Khampa refugees—stand as historical reminders. From Kyang, we continue on a rugged, rocky path alongside the Phu Khola. After another 3 to 4 hours of trekking, we finally reach the remote village of Phu. Overnight stay in Phu Gaon.
This is the second scheduled acclimatization/rest day for this trek. We spend the day taking a day hike nearby and explore Nar village and have a close look over the local culture and lifestyle. We also prepare for the trek next day. Overnight in Nar.
The day begins with a descent along a trail that crosses multiple streams and suspension bridges, eventually leading us to Mahendra Pul after around four hours of trekking. One of the highlights along the way is crossing a dramatic suspension bridge that hangs 80 meters above the deep gorge of the Lapche River. We stop for lunch in Mahendra Pul. After lunch, we begin a steep ascent, passing numerous Buddhist stupas on our way to Nar Village—a journey that takes about two hours. Once in Nar, we can explore several Buddhist monasteries and take in the stunning views of Pisang Peak and nearby lesser-known summits. Overnight stay in Nar.
Today is our second planned acclimatization and rest day. We’ll spend the day exploring the surrounding areas with a short day hike and take time to immerse ourselves in the local culture and way of life in Nar Village. It's also an opportunity to rest, recharge, and prepare for the challenging trek ahead. Overnight stay in Nar.
Today promises an adventurous and long day hike, so we rise early to make our way to Kang La Pass. From the pass, we are rewarded with breathtaking views of the Annapurna massif. After soaking in the scenery, we descend towards Ngwal, where we’ll spend the night. Overnight stay in Ngwal.
Today we trek from Ngwal to Manang, passing through the remote village of Paugh, which offers stunning views of the Annapurna range. We then continue with a gradual ascent to Mungli, where we join the main Annapurna Trail. From there, we make our way to Manang, where we’ll set up camp and rest for the night. Overnight stay in Manang.
From Manang village, the trail crosses a stream and climbs up to the village of Tenki, located above Manang. It then continues ascending out of the Marshyangdi Valley, turning northwest along the Jarsang Khola valley. The path follows this valley northward, passing several pastures and patches of juniper trees as it steadily gains altitude. Along the way, the trail passes close to the small village of Ghunsa, a cluster of flat mud-roofed houses situated just below the trailhead. The route then leads through meadows where horses and yaks graze freely. After crossing a small river via a wooden bridge, we encounter an ancient Mani wall in a scenic meadow before reaching the small village of Yak Kharka. Overnight stay in Yak Kharka.
Today, we make our way to Thorong Phedi, the base of the pass. This small, bustling settlement supports trekkers and climbers, serving as a common base camp. Some trekkers choose to hike up to the High Camp today to ease the next day’s ascent, but our Himalayan Glacier team leader advises against this. Although tomorrow will be challenging, we prefer to rest and sleep well at the lower altitude of Thorong Phedi rather than risk staying overnight at the higher elevation of High Camp. Overnight stay at Thorong Phedi.
One of the major highlights of this trek is crossing the challenging Thorong La Pass at an impressive altitude of 5,416m (17,764ft). Starting early is essential to navigate the icy, high-altitude path safely. Despite the tough climb, the stunning mountain views along the way make the effort well worth it. We arrive in Muktinath by sunset—a sacred pilgrimage site revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. Here, we can explore the area, which features a Vishnu temple and a nearby monastery. Overnight stay in Muktinath.
We start our descent through the striking Kali Gandaki Gorge, moving across the dry, arid landscape. Along the way, we pass the villages of Jharkot and Khingar, known for their traditional Tibetan-style architecture. Following the valley floor alongside the Kali Gandaki River, we eventually arrive in Jomsom. Overnight stay in Jomsom.
After breakfast, we take a scenic flight to Pokhara, flying through the dramatic gorges between the towering Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. Upon arrival at Pokhara Airport, we’ll be transferred to our hotel by the lakeside. In the evening, we can relax and explore the stunning Pokhara Valley. A peaceful walk along the shores of Fewa Lake—Nepal’s second-largest lake—offers breathtaking views of Machhapuchhare (Fishtail) Mountain. Optional activities include a boat ride on the lake or a short hike up to the World Peace Pagoda. We’ll end the day with a leisurely stroll around the vibrant lakeside area. Overnight stay in Pokhara.
After breakfast today, we drive back to Kathmandu. Once we arrive, we’ll be taken to our hotel. The afternoon is free to relax, catch up on emails with fellow travelers, and sort through your photos. You may also choose to enjoy some last-minute shopping or simply unwind. In the evening, we’ll come together for a farewell dinner to celebrate the successful completion of our journey. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Today marks the end of our Nepal adventure! A representative from Himalayan Glacier will accompany us to the airport about three hours before our flight. As we head home, we’ll have plenty of time to reflect on our trip and start dreaming about our next journey in this incredible country.
