Overview

Offering some incredible sceneraries, the trek climb starts through the foothills into the great mountain stronghold of peaks such as Kanchenjunga, Rathong, and Jannu. Along the trail, trekkers can explore and witness North and South Base Camps of Mt. Kanchenjunga.  

In the wonders of the Himalaya, Kanchenjunga Circuit offers an adventurous trek allowing trekkers to indulge themselves and engage them with nature and the cultural richness. This trek is now listed in one of the premier routes for people who wish to take on a challenging and rare trekking experience. Many wildlife also reside here such as the Himalayan black bear, snow leopards, and the Assamese macaque.

With a determination of accomplishing challenging trials like this, trekkers are assured to feel the worth of completing it. The reward of majestic scenery and warm hearted locals are sure to keep trekkers awestruck in their entire trip. Mostly, Rai and Limbu people reside in these areas and strongly follow Buddhism and Hinduism.

Itinerary

  • Day 01 - Arrival in Kathmandu

    Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport and be warmly welcomed by your trekking team. Transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu and unwind from your flight. Later, meet your guide for a detailed briefing about the Kanchenjunga Circuit. Explore Thamel’s vibrant streets or enjoy a traditional Nepali dinner. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

  • Day 02 - Kathmandu – Trip Preparation & Permit Work

    Spend the day preparing for one of Nepal’s most remote treks. Complete paperwork such as restricted-area permits and TIMS. If time allows, explore Kathmandu’s UNESCO sites or shop for last-minute gear.

  • Day 03 - Fly to Bhadrapur – Drive to Taplejung

    Begin trekking through traditional Limbu villages, terraced fields, and dense forests. The trail follows the Tamor River and passes small wooden bridges and waterfalls. Enjoy glimpses of snow-capped peaks in the distance. Reach Mitlung, a quiet riverside village, and experience local culture. Overnight at a teahouse.

  • Day 04 - Taplejung to Mitlung

    Begin trekking through traditional Limbu villages, terraced fields, and dense forests. The trail follows the Tamor River and passes small wooden bridges and waterfalls. Enjoy glimpses of snow-capped peaks in the distance. Reach Mitlung, a quiet riverside village, and experience local culture. Overnight at a teahouse.

  • Day 05 - Mitlung to Chiruwa

    Trek through peaceful farmland, forested paths, and tiny settlements. Observe local farming and daily village life. The trail meanders along the river and offers views of green hills and distant mountains. Arrive at Chiruwa and enjoy a homely teahouse stay.

  • Day 06 - Chiruwa to Sukathum

    The trail gradually climbs along the river and through bamboo and rhododendron forests. Cross wooden suspension bridges and pass small villages with prayer flags fluttering. Sukathum provides your first taste of the higher Himalayan environment. Overnight at a teahouse.

  • Day 07 - Sukathum to Amjilosa

    The trek becomes steeper, winding through waterfalls, forests, and rocky trails. The surroundings start showing alpine features as you ascend. Amjilosa is a small Sherpa village perched on a hillside, offering panoramic views of nearby peaks. Overnight stay in a local lodge.

  • Day 08 - Amjilosa to Ghunsa

    Walk through mixed forests and open meadows, gradually gaining altitude. Cross several suspension bridges and small streams along the way. Ghunsa, a traditional Sherpa village, is surrounded by prayer flags and monasteries. Interact with locals and enjoy the serene alpine environment. Overnight in Ghunsa.

  • Day 09 - Acclimatization Day in Ghunsa

    Take a short hike to nearby Lapsang or high pastures to adjust to altitude. Explore Ghunsa’s monastery and traditional stone houses. Enjoy magnificent views of Kanchenjunga and surrounding peaks. This day helps your body acclimatize for higher passes. Overnight in Ghunsa.

  • Day 10 - Ghunsa to Kambachen

    Trek through pine and rhododendron forests, passing remote settlements and alpine streams. Open views of snow-capped mountains appear as you ascend. Kambachen, a small alpine settlement, is your stop for the night, offering a peaceful Himalayan ambiance. Overnight in Kambachen.

  • Day 11 - Kambachen to Lhonak

    The trail becomes rugged, crossing glacial moraines and rocky terrains. Enjoy dramatic views of Kanchenjunga North, Lhotse, and surrounding glaciers. Lhonak is a remote high-altitude camp with spectacular scenery, perfect for photography and acclimatization. Overnight at a high camp or teahouse.

  • Day 12 - Lhonak to Pangpema (North Base Camp) & Return to Lhonak

    Trek to Pangpema, the North Base Camp of Kanchenjunga, for incredible up-close views of glaciers, snowfalls, and Kanchenjunga’s massive north face. After exploring and taking photos, return to Lhonak for the night. This is one of the trek’s highlights for high-altitude scenery. Overnight in Lhonak.

  • Day 13 - Lhonak to Kambachen

    Descend gradually through alpine meadows and moraines. Pass yak grazing areas, wildflowers, and spectacular glacial streams. The trail offers easier walking but equally stunning vistas. Overnight in Kambachen.

  • Day 14 - Kambachen to Ghunsa

    Continue descending through alpine forests and small settlements. Enjoy observing the unique flora and fauna, including rhododendron, juniper, and Himalayan birds. Ghunsa welcomes trekkers with its traditional Sherpa charm and cozy teahouses. Overnight in Ghunsa.

  • Day 15 - Ghunsa to Cheram (2,500m)

    Descend further through serene valleys, dense forests, and remote villages. Encounter prayer flags, local monasteries, and waterfalls along the trail. Cheram is a quiet settlement offering a peaceful night and warm hospitality. Overnight in Cheram. Kanchenjunga Base Camp, we will return to Tseram.

  • Day 16 - Cheram to Yamphudin (1,550m) / Drive to Taplejung

    Descend gradually through farmland and terraced villages to Yamphudin. From there, take a vehicle back to Taplejung. Reflect on your trek and enjoy the scenic countryside. Overnight in Taplejung.

  • Day 17 - Fly Back to Kathmandu

    Take a scenic flight from Taplejung to Bhadrapur and onward to Kathmandu. Enjoy aerial views of the eastern Himalayan peaks and lush valleys as you return from the trek. Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel to rest and refresh.

  • Day 18 - Final Departure

    Depending on your flight schedule, transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey home. Depart with unforgettable memories of the remote Kanchenjunga region, its majestic peaks, glaciers, and unique Himalayan culture.
